NORCROSS, Ga. — The Norcross Police Department is inviting the community to join in its first-ever Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run on Saturday, March 28. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for athletes with intellectual disabilities across Georgia.
The event will feature two participation options: a 5K Torch Run starting at 9 a.m. and a 1.4-mile community walk beginning at 10 a.m. Both activities will take place along sidewalks surrounding Thrasher Park in downtown Norcross. The event activities will be centered at the park located at 93 Park Drive.
According to the City of Norcross, the event aims to bring law enforcement officers and residents together. The goal is to support the mission of Special Olympics Georgia. This organization provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Participants will follow a route beginning at Thrasher Park. They will travel along North Peachtree Street. There will be a checkpoint stop at One Heart Church. After the checkpoint, participants will continue the route back to the park. The event will conclude around 11:30 a.m. after the final participants finish.
Organizers say the torch run is part of a national initiative. In this initiative, law enforcement agencies across the United States carry the “Flame of Hope.” They do this to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics programs.
Registration costs $15 for the run or walk, while a $25 registration choice includes an official Torch Run T-shirt. Children under 13 years old can join for free.
Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy free refreshments, snacks, and community booths waiting at the finish line. Event organizers say several giveaways and gift basket prizes will also be available.
“All proceeds help Special Olympics Georgia,” the City of Norcross said in a social media announcement promoting the event.
Special Olympics Georgia provides sports programs throughout the year. These programs are designed to help athletes develop physical fitness. They aim to build confidence and strengthen friendships within their communities.
The organization’s mission is to offer individuals with intellectual disabilities the chance to experience joy. They aim to give personal achievement and inclusion through sports.
City officials encourage residents, families, and community members to sign up early. Participation spots are limited because of the sidewalk route layout.
Registration is available online through the Special Olympics Torch Run registration page.
The Norcross Police Department hopes the event will become a new annual tradition. It aims to strengthen community connections. The event will also support an important cause.
