Suspect Arrested After Atlanta Police Pursuit Involving Firearm and Drugs

ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta police reported that they arrested a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated assault. The arrest followed a vehicle pursuit and foot chase in downtown Atlanta last month.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers received information on Feb. 25, 2026. A suspect wanted for aggravated assault in the city of Atlanta was traveling in the downtown area. The suspect was in a Ford Fusion that belonged to the victim in the case.

Police said officers coordinated with the Georgia State Patrol. They also worked with the Atlanta Police Department Air Unit. Their goal was to set up a perimeter along the suspect’s route of travel.

Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle with assistance from the Georgia State Patrol. Investigators said the suspect fled from the traffic stop. This prompted a brief pursuit before the driver abandoned the vehicle. The suspect then ran on foot.

Officers were capable of apprehending the suspect shortly after the foot chase, according to police.

The suspect was identified by police as Zakkiyya Ardister.

Investigators said that during the pursuit, the suspect discarded a firearm. The suspect also discarded a satchel. Officers later recovered both items.

Police said the recovered items included:

  • Two digital scales
  • Multiple glassine bags
  • One suspected MDMA pill
  • 2.3 grams of suspected oxycodone
  • Approximately 49.5 grams of suspected alprazolam (Xanax)

Authorities said Ardister now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Fleeing and Eluding
  • Reckless Driving
  • Reckless Conduct
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute (three counts)
  • Possession of Drug-Related Objects
  • Obstruction

Police also said Ardister had active warrants for aggravated assault. He had active warrants for simple battery. He was also wanted for cruelty to children in the third degree at the time of the arrest.

The suspect was transported to the Fulton County Jail, where he remains in custody.

Atlanta police emphasized that all arrests are public information. Individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
