DULUTH, Ga, — A 62-year-old woman died Tuesday evening after a single-vehicle crash on Abbotts Bridge Road in Duluth, according to the Duluth Police Department.

Officers responded to the crash at about 7:09 p.m. on March 3 near the intersection of Abbotts Bridge Road and Frankie Lane, where they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Abbotts Bridge Road when it briefly drifted toward the center line before abruptly veering to the right. The vehicle then left the roadway and traveled down an embankment approximately 20 to 30 feet before hitting a tree and coming to a stop, police said.

A witness driving behind the vehicle called 911 and remained at the scene until police officers and emergency medical personnel arrived.

The driver, identified by authorities as Bonita Daphne Ingram-Logan, 62, was found inside the vehicle unresponsive and not breathing. First responders attempted to assess the situation, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Investigators with the Duluth Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit (AIU) responded and conducted a full investigation into the crash.

Based on preliminary findings, investigators believe the driver may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, which could have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
