A viral post circulating on X (formerly Twitter) this week falsely claims that a new CNN poll ranked former President Donald Trump as the worst U.S. president in history.
The post, shared Wednesday evening by a user identified as “Honey,” asked followers whether they believed a supposed CNN poll naming Trump the worst president ever. The claim quickly gained traction, drawing nearly 2,000 heated replies along partisan lines.
However, no such recent CNN poll exists.
A review of CNN’s polling data confirms that the claim appears to echo older and unrelated rankings, including a 2021 C-SPAN survey that asked historians to rank U.S. presidents based on leadership qualities. That survey was not conducted by CNN and did not reflect public opinion polling.

CNN’s most recent relevant data comes from a January CNN/SSRS poll, which found that 58% of Americans viewed Trump’s first year back in office as a failure, while 39% approved of his performance. Broader approval tracking has consistently placed Trump’s numbers at around 40%, reflecting deep national divisions.
Analysts note that economic frustration, lingering inflation concerns despite recent cooling, and partisan polarization continue to shape public sentiment as the country approaches the midterm elections.
The viral post highlights how misleading or outdated information can quickly spread online, particularly when framed as breaking news or attributed to major outlets.
CNN has not released any poll ranking presidents as “worst” in recent months.
