Two Norcross Brothers Sentenced to Life in Prison for Sexual Abuse of Child

Two brothers from Norcross have been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This follows their convictions in a child sexual abuse case. Gwinnett County prosecutors announced this on Thursday.

Jose Angel Soriano, 36, and Jordi F. Soriano-Balbuena, 32, were each found guilty of rape stemming from the prolonged sexual abuse of a minor girl. According to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office, the abuse occurred over a period of time while the victim was under the defendants’ care.

Soriano-Balbuena was also convicted on an additional charge of aggravated child molestation. The jury returned guilty verdicts after hearing testimony detailing repeated assaults that prosecutors said caused lasting physical and emotional harm to the victim.

During sentencing, the court imposed life sentences without parole for both men. The court cited the severity of the crimes, the age of the victim, and the sustained nature of the abuse. Prosecutors argued that the sentences were necessary to protect the public and guarantee accountability for crimes committed against a child.

“This case signifies some of the most serious offenses under Georgia law,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. “The sentences handed down show the gravity of the harm inflicted and the importance of safeguarding children from sexual violence.”

Investigators testified that the abuse came to light after the victim disclosed the assaults. This prompted an investigation. It ultimately led to the brothers’ arrests. Law enforcement officials credited the victim’s cooperation and forensic evidence with helping secure the convictions.

Throughout the trial, prosecutors emphasized that child sexual abuse cases are often difficult to report. They highlighted that victims face fear, trauma, and pressure to stay silent. Advocates say successful prosecutions can encourage other victims to come forth.

Defense attorneys did not promptly comment after the sentencing. Court records show that both defendants will be remanded to the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections. They will serve their sentences there.

The District Attorney’s Office acknowledged the role of investigators, prosecutors, and victim advocates involved in the case. They highlighted the coordinated effort needed to bring the matter to trial.

Officials urged anyone with information related to child abuse to contact local law enforcement. They also urged individuals who suspect abuse to reach out to child protective services. Authorities reiterated that reporting suspected abuse can help prevent further harm and hold offenders accountable.

The case marks the conclusion of a lengthy legal process. It brings a measure of closure to the victim and her family, prosecutors said. It also reinforces the county’s commitment to prosecuting crimes against children to the fullest extent of the law.
