Today, we take a moment to pause and remember the brave life of Deputy Davy Crawford, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on February 12, 2010. On that fateful day, a severe winter snowstorm struck, creating treacherous driving conditions. While responding to his duties, Deputy Crawford’s patrol vehicle veered off the roadway along Carrollton-Tyus Road and tragically plunged into the icy waters of the Little Tallapoosa River. This devastating incident led to an immeasurable loss for his family, colleagues, and the entire community that looked up to him.

Deputy Crawford’s career in public service spanned several decades, marked by dedication and selflessness. He embarked on his law enforcement journey in 1974, initially serving as a radio dispatcher. His passion for serving the community soon propelled him to become a deputy with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, where he garnered respect and admiration for his unwavering commitment to the safety of others.

In 1981, Deputy Crawford transferred to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. He made a significant impact during his three-year tenure, exemplifying professionalism and devotion to protecting the community. In 1989, he returned to Coweta County, where he continued to serve with distinction until 1999. His affinity for law enforcement brought him back to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, where he served in the Patrol Division, diligently attending to the needs of the public until the tragic end of his life.

Deputy Crawford’s legacy is characterized by his steadfast commitment to service, integrity, and quiet strength. He approached each day with humility and courage, making a difference in the lives of those he encountered. Though his life was cut short far too soon, the values he embodied and the commitment he demonstrated continue to inspire those who wear the badge today.
